The Kin are a feline people. Their mouths have fangs and sharper teeth in front than humans. Like humans, their jaws are fully movable, but their fangs affect the way they speak, to a small degree. Their alphabet does not contain the letter "B", but they pronounce it well enough when speaking Etymis (the Tarthian version of English).

They tend to use more breath than humans do. For example, Kin pronounce all vowel sounds by exhaling a longer breath. Humans say "cow". Kin would say "coooow." Names are where it's most obvious. Humans would pronounce "Stahn" as Stan, but Kin pronounce the "ah" like the "o" in pond. An "H" is a pause in Felis.

These pauses make them take longer to speak than humans, which can lead to annoyance on both sides. Humans become impatient, but Kin do not like to be rushed. They don't like having sentences finished for them.

This lexicon provides an insight into Felis [pronounced "fel-LEESS"]. The human tradestandard language is called Etymis ["ET-u-miss"].

As you study Felis, keep in mind the way the Kin approach life. Their natural curiosity makes them fun-loving and inquisitive and they relish each moment. If only we all had such a joyful view...
